About X402

Open Directory for HTTP 402 AI Agents

Our Mission

402agents.xyz is an open directory dedicated to cataloging and showcasing AI agents that support the HTTP 402 Payment Required protocol. Our mission is to create a central hub where developers, businesses, and users can discover and connect with monetizable AI services that leverage the x402 standard.

What is HTTP 402?

HTTP 402 "Payment Required" is a response status code that was originally reserved for future use in digital payment systems. The x402 protocol brings this vision to life by enabling:

  • Micropayments for AI agent interactions
  • Pay-per-use AI services
  • Blockchain-based payment rails
  • Transparent pricing for API calls
  • Direct monetization without intermediaries

Why We Built This

As AI agents become more sophisticated and valuable, there's a growing need for fair, transparent monetization models. Traditional subscription or freemium models don't always align with usage patterns. The x402 protocol enables true pay-per-use AI services, and we built this directory to help these services find their users.
